Backcountry Bourbon is an unfiltered, single barrel bourbon aged in Colorado an average of 18 months in American white oak barrels. The barrels are charred to level 3 allowing the wood sugars to caramelize and bring out the caramel and vanilla flavors of the oak. We bottle the bourbon based on the smoothness of taste rather than a pre-determined timeframe so some of the bottles are closer to two years in age.
The bourbon is proofed with crystal clear Rocky Mountain Cache la Poudre River Basin water and bottled in Ft. Collins, Colorado. The bourbon is bottled directly from the barrel unfiltered, giving it a cloudy appearance, to preserve the unique backcountry “caramel and vanilla wood” flavors that cold filtering tends to remove.
